LMS solutions for aircraft power systems

Multi-domain 1D simulation for power transformation and distribution networks

One of the most pressing engineering challenges for aircraft manufacturers is improving the overall cost-effectiveness of the development process while producing aircraft with a lower eco footprint. This requires significant design optimization on the system and component levels.

The LMS Imagine.Lab Aircraft Power Systems solution allows for both transient and steady-state system simulation using a set of fully compatible, multi-domain component libraries. Providing multi-level analysis capabilities, LMS Imagine.Lab makes it possible to determine the general system architecture, simulate and validate detailed components, and finally integrate the different components in the system. Users simply access predefined system components from the various libraries. Components can also be customized. This way users can create an ad-hoc system thanks to block-by-block assembly of both predefined and in-house library components.

The LMS Aircraft Power Systems solution provides the means for engineers to model and optimize hydraulic power, pneumatic and electrical systems and analyze technological and design choices to meet the pressing engineering challenges the aviation industry is facing.

LMS Imagine.Lab Aircraft Power Systems provides a solution to analyze and improve the various elements that make up the aircraft power transformation and distribution networks. Based on a comprehensive set of LMS Imagine.Lab AMESim libraries for hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical and fuel systems, this solution lets engineers examine in-depth all the required angles incorporating CAE and control engineering, if required.

  • Deep multi-domain analysis
  • Huge amount of validated libraries and components
  • CAE processing tool
  • Graphical user interface for data post-processing
  • Optimization process
  • Unique analysis tools for real-time model creation

Hydraulic Power Systems
LMS Imagine.Lab Aircraft Power Systems eases modeling of complex fluids networks by accounting for ventilation cavitation and aeration. Thanks to component variety, like pumps, valves, and actuators, and a fluid property database, the solution can compute pressure, temperature and flow transitions.

  • Pipe fittings and dedicated devices for any distribution network
  • Incompressible and compressible Newtonian single-phase fluids with and without aeration and cavitation
  • Advanced thermodynamic computation for variable fluid properties (viscosity, density and bulk)
  • Water hammer transients with advanced pipe and hose models (pressure drop, inertia effect, wall expansion, frequency dependent friction)
Component-level design for network devices (valves, pumps and actuators)

Pneumatic Systems
Designed to simulate the pneumatic network, LMS Imagine.Lab Aircraft Power Systems solution allows for perfect, semi-perfect or real gas simulation with rigorous handling of gas properties, mass momentum and energy conservation. The system is able to work with gas mixtures and manage more than one gas or gas mixture at the same time.

  • Considers sonic, subsonic or laminar flow in orifices;
  • Calculates all required variables (mass and enthalpy flow rates, pressures, temperatures…)
  • Describes pipe fittings and dedicated devices, like bend, and T-junction for distribution systems
  • Considers pressure drops, transients and inertia effects with advanced pipe models
  • Component-level design for devices, like pumps, valves, and actuators.
