LMS engineering solutions for the shipbuilding industry

LMS delivers a unique combination of simulation software, mobile and lab testing systems and engineering services to answer challenges of the shipbuilding industry and their suppliers.

1D Multi-domain simulation
LMS Imagine.Lab AMESim, the integrated simulation platform for 1D multi-domain system simulation helps shipbuilding companies to design and optimize engines, propulsion systems and hydraulic components.

It provides simulation solutions for:

  • Exhaust systems
  • Engine cooling
  • Lubrication
  • Fuel injection
  • Combustion
  • Camshafts
  • Gears, propellers, clutch etc…

3D Virtual simulation
LMS Virtual.Lab allows development teams to analyze and optimize a design’s real-life performance from the early concept stage onwards. LMS offers a complete solution suite to simulate the performance of mechanical systems for key aspects like:

  • Dynamic motion (including flexibility and contacts modeling)
  • Acoustic prediction (incl. hydro-acoustic)
  • Vibration and structural integrity
  • Fatigue and durability
  • Optimization
  • Transfer path analysis (TPA) form the noise source through the Structure

Physical prototype testing
LMS Test.Lab, the integrated test environment for functional performance engineering:

  • Structural testing and modal analysis of full system or components
  • Rotating system and/or component acoustic testing (incl. order tracking)
  • Acoustic Testing & Analysis: transmission loss, sound levels and sound quality, source localization,...
  • Understanding the path taken by the vibration through the structure and identify the contribution of the sources to the vibration or the noise level perceived
  • Environmental vibration qualification
  • Machine diagnostics
  • Rugged standalone data recording, embedded signal conditioning

Engineering services – a truly hybrid approach
LMS’ hybrid approach combines test-based models and loads of predecessor designs with virtual models of newly designed components and subsystems. The LMS solutions allow test teams to use an FE model to determine the best measurement and excitation locations. LMS offers engineering services ranging from very topical troubleshooting to technology transfer projects.

  • Noise and vibration reduction
  • Fatigue life optimization
  • Dynamic performance improvement
  • Smart testing combined with selective virtual modeling
