Perkins Selects LMS Test.Lab for Noise & Vibration Engineering

Дата пресс-релиза9 Jul 2002

Perkins Engines purchased LMS Test.Lab to re-equip their semi-anechoic test cells at their major supply centre in Peterborough in the UK.

The Perkins NVH (Noise, Vibration and Harshness) team provides services ranging from core engine, installation, and machine NVH development to final troubleshooting. LMS Test.Lab gave Perkins many reasons to buy; it cuts testing time, it works for all levels of user, and the reporting tools interface easily with the MS office tools used by everyone in the organization. With the intensification of test demands and the increasing volume of test work at Perkins - benchmarking, concept design and support of experiment - the productivity improvements gained with LMS Test.Lab are essential to getting the work done better, faster and easier.

Perkins anticipates cutting their data acquisition time in half through the implementation of LMS Test.Lab. The workflow-oriented user interface dramatically improves the productivity of the testing process – cutting the time needed to do the testing – and adapting to the needs of each type of user: operator, technician and engineer. LMS Test.Lab makes it easy to standardize test procedures, execute fast searches for comparative engine data and to manage the data as easily from the test cell as from the office. Steve Marshall, Manager of the Perkins NVH team, said “LMS Test.Lab meets our needs, giving us a state of the art platform for test that suits everyone involved – management, engineers, operators. It also makes following the workflow simple, cabling and instrumenting a test object easy, and reporting to the rest of the team clear and quick.”

LMS Test.Lab will have a positive impact on other key aspects of Perkins test process. To further increase the quality and consistency of measured data, and to minimize the need for time-consuming re-acquisition sessions caused by instrumentation faults, LMS Test.Lab’s built-in alerts let the operators check the integrity of their data immediately. With the increased demands on the team, LMS Test.Lab will facilitate improved organization of the test work. In a distributed working environment, engineers appreciate the fact that they can shuffle and customize the worksheets to guide their operators, or email instructions to technicians in the test cells from anywhere in the facility. They can read and work with test data directly, without having to be in the test areas themselves.

LMS Test.Lab’s efficiency features extend all the way through the test process. The improved and more easily managed organization of both the work and the data is essential for the purposes of ISO9001 quality control and data consistency. TEDS “smart transducers” record all information relevant to the acquisition channel and point of contact with the test object, then labels and stores each configuration for future reference. Perkins team leaders are also aware that by basing their test environment on LMS products they have room to grow. They have the ideal platform for future installations; simply to increase the channel count further, to add fully compatible mobile analyzers or to go so far as to encompass hybrid simulation done with LMS CAE products such as LMS Virtual.Lab.
