LMS Announces the Launch of LMS Virtual.Lab

Дата пресс-релиза27 Nov 2001

LMS International announced the launch of its new LMS Virtual.Lab suite of software for virtual prototyping. LMS Virtual.Lab is the world’s first integrated software environment for the functional performance engineering of critical design attributes, such as noise and vibration, ride & handling, comfort, safety & durability.

Fully associative, it automatically links to leading CAD and CAE tools, captures the process flow to better manage the analysis sequence, and enables engineers to refine their designs in virtual space not just at the component level – but also at the sub-assembly and full system level where most performance problems occur.  By eliminating unnecessary file transfers, model and data redundancies, and automating the analysis process, LMS Virtual.Lab dramatically increases the time available for value-added engineering.

During trials, fatigue-life predictions that used to take a couple of weeks were completed in a day. At one automaker, LMS Virtual.Lab took less than an hour to determine the best engine mount to use from a choice of three. The acoustic meshing of a full engine that previously took several weeks, was performed in a couple of hours, and the prediction of the sound of an engine run-up to ISO3744 ran at least 100 times faster than before. Such speed means that the refinement of virtual prototypes is not only possible but practical and should allow companies to take weeks off the product development process, reduce uncertainty and minimize the reliance on physical prototype refinement.

LMS Virtual.Lab provides a fully embedded framework for LMS functional performance engineering applications: LMS SYSNOISE (acoustics), LMS DADS (motion) and LMS FALANCS (durability). Virtual.lab is fully associative, maintaining links to the world’s premier structural solvers – Abaqus, ANSYS, CATIA CAE, and MSC.Nastran; as well as links to leading CAD systems and standards –  CATIA, I-DEAS, Unigraphics, and ProEngineer. This new common environment allows the transparent exchange of models, loads and simulation results, eliminating the myriad of often-incompatible tools engineers are working with today.

LMS Virtual.Lab is based, for the user interface and CAE data modeling, on the acclaimed Dassault Systèmes V5 application architecture, which was further enriched with LMS specific components. The V5 architecture is a scalable object-based middleware infrastructure offering both generic and domain specific frameworks enabling multi-physics CAE applications.

To overcome the limitations of virtual prototyping at the system level, LMS Virtual.Lab enables a unique hybrid simulation approach – one where the accuracy of test-based models and loads can be combined with the flexibility of virtual models. Furthermore, as many designs reuse components, LMS Virtual.Lab provides the ability to use validated models of existing components with predictions of the new, resulting in a faster and more reliable simulation process overall.

According to LMS Chairman and CEO, Dr. Urbain Vandeurzen, "LMS Virtual.Lab represents a new paradigm - it’s the world’s first totally integrated environment for functional performance engineering and it’s going to transform the efficiency and effectiveness of our customers. Initial user response at beta-sites around the world have been overwhelmingly enthusiastic, and I am confident that LMS will revolutionize the virtual prototyping world in the same way that we did for the test community".

“18 months ago, LMS was the first Dassault Systèmes strategic partner to select the V5 architecture, as the 3d PLM middleware for its next-generation functional performance engineering solutions - LMS Virtual.Lab," said Bernard Charlès, President, Dassault Systèmes. "The licensing of the V5 framework has provided impressive results with an extremely fast implementation of LMS’ next generation Virtual Prototyping. This easy to use product portfolio is perfectly integrated with the DS 3d PLM offering, and will provide LMS and its customers a strong competitive advantage.”

LMS Virtual.Lab will begin shipping in December 2001.
