Ford is integrating 22 new LMS SCADAS III’s into the LMS testing systems they have in use at the Acoustic Center Cologne since 1993, to update and strengthen the link between their hardware and software tools . Faster, better data acquisition and analysis is the payoff from consolidating all systems into an all LMS setup. The decision to test exclusively with LMS systems at the NVH facilities allows Ford to effectively streamline and accelerate the test process at the same time as adding unprecedented flexibility and accuracy.
In their drive to exceed customer expectations while shortening their product development cycle, Ford has successfully deployed an NVH engineering strategy that covers the entire development process, from benchmarking and target setting - virtual engineering of the initial designs - to the final refinement and validation of production models. Digital development, using CAE models and test data in combination, is at the core of Ford’s NVH engineering process. Their engineers use LMS systems for concept support work, for correlating CAE, test and prototype data, as well as for all testing related to functional engineering of the European Ford model lines.
During the recent overhaul of the Cologne test facility, LMS data acquisition equipment was chosen as the Ford standard because of its superior integration with the LMS Testing software, an unusually low noise floor, allowing them to measure smaller signals with more reliability, and its absolute compatibility with all the data they have acquired on LMS systems since ‘93. In addition to providing flexibility and modularity, the LMS SCADAS III’s will handle all of the NVH acquisition and analysis: modal analysis, running modes, acoustic intensity, time data processing, transfer path analysis, comfort analysis, fixed sampling, and order tracking.
Dr. Karl-Heinz Bürger, Manager, Vehicle NVH Ford Europe said, “To increase the productivity of our test labs and gain more flexibility, we have chosen to standardize on LMS for testing software and acquisition hardware, The LMS SCADAS III solution met our requirements perfectly.” Comments from other department members included, “The master/slave combination works and is stable”, “the front-end exceeds specification”, “its buffered mode feature is very good”, and “a very low noise floor level was measured”.
LMS has invested over twenty years in the development of products and expertise to support and improve computer-aided engineering and testing processes. Ford is just one of the many companies that recognize, through longstanding professional association, the quality and reliability of the LMS Virtual Prototyping and Testing products. Ford Cologne has been a customer of LMS for almost ten years, and LMS is pleased to continue supporting Ford as it reaches for the goal of exceeding their own customers’ expectations.
About LMS SCADAS III
The LMS SCADAS III has everything you need for multichannel Noise & Vibration data acquisition. This modular solution can expand from an inexpensive base with only four channels - to a system with several hundreds of channels. It is a completely digital system with fully computerized calibration and is totally integrated into the LMS CADA-X and LMS Test.Lab testing and analysis software. It has state-of-the-art sampling providing 106 dB dynamic range. It provides very sophisticated signal conditioning for a wide range of transducers. Slave units can be put over 50 m away without degrading measurement performance. An extremely quiet cooling system allows you to perform sensitive acoustic tests. Particular input modules exist for every kind of application. Each input module consists of two (or more) cards: the Signal Processor card and one (or more) four-channel Signal Conditioning cards
